A customer recently asked me if I could fit a worktop upstand to his curved kitchen walls, this was the first time in 29 years of kitchen fitting that I had been asked to do this, I wasn`t sure it would work. The upstand is made from high pressure laminate and usually would prefer to break rather than bend. I used the same method as the customers carpenter had used to bend skirting boards around the curved walls. This involves making a number of cuts in the back of the board (kerfing) to make it flexible. It did work and looked far better than cutting and joining small pieces together to follow the curve. The top edge of the upstand would be filled with a worktop sealant (Colorfil) to disguise the cuts.
